LME Tin Prices Hover Above $55,700 Per Tonne as Forward Curve Shows Modest Contango

Tin prices on the London Metal Exchange remained firm in mid-August 2026, with the three-month closing price recorded at $55,752 per tonne as of August 10, 2026, representing a gain of 0.40% on the session, according to data published by the LME. Official prices for the following session, dated August 11, 2026, showed the cash contract trading in a narrow bid-offer spread of $55,890 to $55,900 per tonne, while the three-month contract was quoted at $56,150 to $56,200 per tonne. The 15-month forward contract was indicated at $56,220 to $56,270 per tonne, reflecting a gently upward-sloping forward curve consistent with a modest contango structure across the tin market.

Closing prices along the forward curve painted a similarly stable picture. The August 2026 contract settled at $55,465 per tonne, with successive monthly contracts rising incrementally through the calendar year. September 2026 closed at $55,605 per tonne, October 2026 at $55,750 per tonne, November 2026 at $55,800 per tonne, and December 2026 at $55,834 per tonne.

The January 2027 contract closed at $55,857 per tonne, suggesting market participants anticipate gradually tightening conditions into the new year. On the inventory side, LME warehouse data showed opening stocks of 5,690 tonnes. Of this total, live warrants accounted for 4,785 tonnes, while cancelled warrants stood at 805 tonnes.

The relatively elevated proportion of cancelled warrants — which represent metal earmarked for physical delivery — may point to near-term draws on LME-registered stockpiles, a development that traders typically monitor closely as an indicator of physical market tightness. Settlement exchange rates applicable to LME tin contracts were published as follows: the British pound sterling at 1.3501, the Japanese yen at 158.82, and the euro at 1.1553 against the US dollar. All price data reported above is sourced directly from the London Metal Exchange official market data platform (lme.com), with prices denominated in US dollars per tonne.

Intraday data carries a minimum delay of 15 minutes per LME disclosure standards.
