Shanghai Futures Exchange - SHFE what it is
The Shanghai Futures Exchange - SHFE is the reference market in Asia for the listing of non-ferrous metals, steel and rubber. The SHFE was formed by the merger of the Shanghai Metal Market, the Shanghai Foodstuffs Commodity Exchange and the Shanghai Commodity Exchange in December 1999. It is a non-profit organisation regulated by the Chinese supervisory authorities. The trading floor is located in Lujiazui in the Pudong district of Shanghai.
The characteristic of this market is that it expresses quotations including VAT at 13%. For this reason, prices on this market are generally higher than those displayed by other commodity exchanges.
Main listed commodities
The main commodities listed on the Shanghai Futures Exchange are:
- Non-Ferrous and Ferrous Metals: the non-ferrous metals listed on the SHFE are Copper, Aluminium, Lead and Zinc. Steel as wirerods and extrusions complete the range of metals listed.
- Precious: Shanghai Stock Exchange quotes gold and silver.
- Other commodities: the Chinese market's offerings are complemented by quotations for natural rubber and fuel oil.
